Reserve Bank of India Monetary Museum

The Monetary Museum at Mumbai, the first of its kind in the country, aims to depict the evolution of money and finance in India. Set up by the Reserve Bank of India, it has been envisioned to serve as the focal points of the Bank’s outreach and educational programmes.

As the monetary authority of the country, the Reserve Bank is also the custodian of its heritage and has initiated the documentation and preservation of this rich and varied legacy. On display is a representative collection of monetary curiosities, financial instruments. Indian coinage and paper currency, which trace the evolution of money in India.
